In 2018, we will be supporting the Watoga State Park Mountain Trail Challenge (Half Marathon and 5k). It begins at 8:30 am on Saturday Aug. 11th from the Beaver Creek Campground at Watoga State Park. The Mountain Trail Challenge is not a WVMTR event, but they have offered to give WVMTR members a discount of $2.50 if registered online before July 1st 2018. Just enter the discount code of “WVMTR”.
Saturday consists of a group run through either the Cranberry Wilderness area or somewhere else nearby. There is a course with four loops starting from the same trail head on WV Scenic Highway Rt. 150, just a 20 min. drive from Marlinton. The loops are about 6 miles, 12 miles, 15 miles, and 22 miles.
Sunday often includes different groups of people going for a bike ride or run on the Greenbrier River Rail Trail, a float trip on the Greenbrier River, or going swimming on Knapps Creek.
The Daly and Todd families have been kind enough to offer their yards for tents and other camping activities. There is plenty of flat space available at either home, and even some space for a couple small campers. The houses will be open for use of bathrooms, showers, and kitchens.
Friday dinner is on your own. Saturday evening will be a pot luck with entree provide on the bank of the Greenbrier River. Please bring your own supplies for breakfast and lunch. Please bring something delicious for the Saturday potluck at the Todd residence.
