I support the 2023 designation. Absolutely no reason to delay equality.

I Motion that all current and future WVMTR races must abide by Trail Sisters rating starting with the next scheduled occurrence.

Most of this is very easy. We did it for the Hurricane Hundred K and it was well worth it.  But, here's the apparel description from the TS site which we need to be clear on:

"If wearable race apparel swag is included with an entry fee, it needs to be gender specific. Receiving a coveted (and technically paid for) apparel item made to fit a man’s body is unacceptable for a woman participant. Both men’s and women’s styles should be made available. Unisex does not count, as that’s normally a smaller fitting men’s piece of apparel.

Providing gender specific apparel actually results in better promotion for your event, as participants will actually wear the items, instead of throwing away or tucking in a closet. People are proud of their race efforts and want to have that keep sake as a reminder. Make that item something they want to hold onto, and something that reminds them to do again."

Wearable race apparel would include buffs, socks, neck gaiters etc. which some of our races do.   Races like FS have done both socks and neck gaiters which are unisex.  We just need to beware of this and not assume that it only applies to shirts so if we decide to do the TS designation we do it right. The paragraph above does not make the distinction between types of apparel.

BTW- I submitted a question asking TS about the apparel.

I really think this is all about good faith effort in promoting equality.  If TS's gets caught up in minutia, then we drop the designation and keep doing our best to treat all runners equally and with all the due respect necessary.

@acasseday just sent the message a few minutes ago. Will keep you posted. I think it will come back that we're fine on those items but I don't want us to assume and be wrong.

@arhodes5 I had hats and socks this year at the KT.  For the socks it came down to sizing. I order S/M for females and M/L for males. I had enough extra that they could trade as needed to get the proper size.

Email reply from the Trail Sisters:

Hi Matthew!

Yes, you would still qualify.  The female specific request is mainly for major apparel pieces.

Thank you for your support and for making your event TS Approved!

Gina

@arhodes5, would you like to augment your original motion?

Never mind Andrew, my error.  You have already done this.

Motion of the floor for all current and future WVMTR races must abide by Trail Sisters rating starting with the next scheduled occurrence.

Is there a second?

I will second this.

I think this is really important. Also- I think we should be posting about this on FB too. This would be a great marketing tool and be helpful to women in deciding what all goes in their pack on race morning!
