West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners
A Mountain State of Running
I will let Ashley take the lead.
Martha and Clair Dolin attend Richmond Elementary school. Martha is in 2nd grade and Clair is in kindergarten. Martha is 8 years old and Clair is 6 years old. Both girls are lifetime members of WVMTR. Their school is having a fun run May 1, 2018 to raise money for a new playground. Each class will run around the school for 40 minutes for their PE period. I wanted to ask the board for a $5 flat rate donation to Richmond Elementary School for both girls. If you wanted to divide it out it would be $2.50 per girl to run however may times around the school they can get in 40 minutes. I know if every 6 and 8 year old life time member asked for a $5 flat rate donation to do a fun run to benefit raising money for a new playground the club would possibly be able to sponsor them, so I was hoping the club would want to aid in a monetary donation for youth running this way since we always aid adults, teen, and others. Thanks!
I don't completely understand this Lifetime Member solicitation, nor how the club donating $5 will be very significant. Getting some kids to exercise is good. Seems like the best thing the students could do would ask family, neighbors, aunts/uncles, local businesses to sponsor them to help build the playground.
I'll personally donate $5 to Martha and to Clair, don't see how WVMTR donating $5 would be significant.
I think you would get more money for the project if you would simply give us board members all the details to contribute via email and folks consider personal contributions.
"The goal of the WVMTR is to encourage running and the healthy, positive qualities that running encompasses. We do this by hosting races, non-competitive club runs, social events, assisting other organizations with running events, and in general just running around having fun!"
This seems outside the club's mission because the goal of the project is to build a playground not encouraging running. I could see the board supporting a member organizing a race to support the playground and you could even consider accepting donations to the cause at the May fun run you are organizing at KSF.
Directly soliciting from friends and family albeit unpleasant is the best course of action.
I will keep the girls home that day.
Adam,
Young lifetime members are the future of this running organization. I am saddened to see many kids get a love for running starting on the playground and these kids do not have a nice area to get this activity.
Dan,
You give $ to the humane society. How do they encourage running?
Let's not let this escalate it to more than it is -- a request for a $10 donation. I share Dan Todd's sentiment and his advice is sage.
Please take my advice and send the board an email with the specifics for donation. I will personally donate $5 to each. Lehmann will do that same. Your request is already doubled and I imagine others might be compelled to contribute.
I host a race as a fund raiser for the humane association, which is different from me asking the board directly for a donation for the humane association. The event encourages running and meets the clubs mission.
I suggested that you could host a race to support the playground or use a run already planned that doesn't have a charity to raise funds for the project.
