As a precursor to our discussion, last year we supported the Wilderness Running Camp with $500 that went toward paying half of two instructor stipends.  For the Adult Camp, we contributed to each participant a WVMTR shirt and 1-year complimentary club membership.  I would like us to discuss how we might be involved for the upcoming year.

I received the following correspondence from Katie Wolpert of Experience Learning (I simply copied her note which was not formally intended for our board, so be sure to read it and understand it within that context):

"Hey Adam, I don't know if we talked about whether WVMTR was going to do the match for running camp coaches again this year. Just let us know so that we can plan appropriately. Thanks!

For adult camp, last year you gave us Tailwind and shirts for all the participants. And I have heard a couple cool things about those shirts. 1. Sarah Forbes was in DC for work and went for some group christmas run in the city there. She ended up meeting one of our adult running campers and running with her because she was wearing the WVMTR shirt that she received at the camp! 2. Another camper was just in touch with me this week. She'd just run her first 100k -- Bandera -- and mentioned that she wore her WVMTR shirt for the whole race.

Anyhow, I am planning to make shirts just for the camp this year -- with some sort of design/logo stuff on them. But do you guys want to be involved in that somehow? Or I guess the more general question is how does WVMTR want to be involved in Adult Running Camp this year?

I'm hoping to do two sessions of camp (concurrently). One is a more intro to trail running camp and the other would be ultra training and racing specific. Bob Luther has agreed to come coach -- I suspect he'll be kinda the leader of the advanced camp. Sophie is on board again too. I am trying to get some more experts up to conduct clinics on things like race nutrition, stretching/rolling, map reading/navigation, technical trail running. We'll have Salomon gear to demo. That's sorta some of the developments with that camp so far. Hopefully more to come."

To add to Katie's comments, still another female runner who attended the Adult camp ran and won her first 50 miler last weekend!

Supporting the Kids Running Camp as we have been is a good thing. Likewise, our modest support the Adult weekend camp adds to the experience and brings us new members

As far as the teen running camp is concerned these are Nola's comments as I remember them:

-They gave us a long list of equipment to bring.  Many pieces were left at EL because they couldn't be packed it.  (Their equipment list needs to be specific to the running camp.)

-The camp was really light on running instruction.

-The teens got no swag.  No shirt.  The donated UD running packs were collected and used with the adult running camp.  (I would have thought that UD would have expected them to being given to the campers, maybe not.)

With that said Nola plans as of now to return with a Charleston friend.

I like DT has a first hand participant under his roof. Maybe with giving as much support as we can there would be more youth wanting to do the camp as well as adults. Can we get shirts to Katie all the campers can take with them and donate Tailwind again?

@asdolin

Katie said in the email that she (Experience Learning) plans to do shirts this year.   Highlands and Trilogy are moving from Tailwind to Endurance Headquarters and their Endure Fuel (club member Mark Sutyak from Fairmont).  I will suggest for Katie to contact Mark.

I second Lehmann's motion.  Any further discussion?
