West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners
A Mountain State of Running
Andrew has a website point of discussion that he asked me to add to the agenda.
Our website has an SSL certificate that encrypts the traffic and gives us the "https" instead of the simple "http". This is important for many reasons. (1) search engines (google) ranks SSL websites better than non-SSL websites. (2) In order for the RSU registration plugin to operate on our website, we must have SSL certificate.
Currently, we have a free SSL certificate that must be updated every 90 days. If you ever experience the problem where when attempting to visit the WVMTR website, you receive a warning that "the website is not secure!", that is because I didn't renew the free SSL cert in time. The process itself is simple, but it takes me about an hour to access the Free SSL website, update, and install everything.
An alternative is to purchase an SSL certificate from GoDaddy (out website host). There is no difference in security, but the purchased certificate automatically renews, and saves me that hour+ install time every 90 days. The purchased certificate from GoDaddy costs $80 per year.
Would the board be willing to accept the annual charge of $80 on top of our current website hosting fees?
I second this expense. seems like a good move and will make it easier for Andrew!
Do we have a motion to purchase an SSL certificate from GoDaddy (out website host)?
I make a motion to purchase an SSL Certificate from GoDaddy on a reoccurring annual basis.
Is there a second to Andrew's motion?
Yes.
