I was approached by Erika Vikander, of Experience Learning, about the possibility of WVMTR teaming up with EL for an Adult Running Camp in 2025.  Club member Ian Voysey is also interested in assisting and the three of us did a Zoom meeting a month or so ago to discuss preliminary logistics.  The brief proposal is simply a partnership to execute a long weekend, tentatively Fr-Su, of planned runs and potentially some "programming" or educational clinics.  Tentatively planned for the end of August (which would be a perfect Trilogy training weekend).

There is no financial request -- maybe some WVMTR swag for participants? -- but this would be a partnership for execution.  WVMTR would provide the knowledge and running expertise to EL's infrastructure, meals, and possibly some educational aspects.  I believe this would be a fun, mission-centered, weekend.  Certainly a venture with more benefits vs. risks for WVMTR.

Thoughts? Questions?

We ultimately will need a motion to approve moving forward with the club's participation in the Adult Running Camp.

This sounds like a great time in theory. Those runners with kids who also run, could the "bigger" kids come and participate? Example, both our girls are on XC teams and from June-Nov have practices. This camp could potentially count as a practice and get them on trails not usually ran on over and over. Also, would we turn this into a meeting weekend instead of doing it in Durbin like prior years?

This sounds like a great idea to me.  I definitely support WVMTR taking part.

@asdolin, I am not sure about minors and adults mixed.  That opens up a different level of liability for EL and WVMTR.  It's not something that we have discussed yet.  In my mind, it would be adults only.

No, this will not take the place of our Annual Meeting.  This will not be a free camp and a totally different objective than the Annual Meeting.

We will need a motion to accept this partnered event, should we wish to proceed.

I helped a few years ago and would love to do so again.  I second the motion to accept this partnered event with Experience Learning.

@bob-luther, Thanks Bob, and thanks for taking the time to join in.  All the way from Africa!  Be safe my friend.

This sounds fun. If the schedule works out, I'd like to participate too. Please keep me in the loop on the progress and I'll see if there is something I can contribute to the program.

I spoke with Erika about this idea before the Zoom meeting. They are also interested in bringing back the youth running camp, but wanted to start with the Adult one. Basically they just dont have a dedicated runner on their staff currently so they really need someone to drive the programmatic part of this event. Same way they are bringing in bike coaches to their mtb camps. I hope the WVMTR folks who really provide a lot of time/support are compensated but that is between the individual and EL. Volunteer coaches/run leaders who get to come take part in the weekend are another great support WVMTR could probably happily provide. Definitely was nice to have some solid programming for in between runs. This is pretty different from Trilogy where folks are totally spent, recouping for the next day, and lots of family/other folks floating around. A good chance to provide a learning experience (for all of us!) and I think that’s where the real value of this thing comes out.

I’m excited they’re interested to bring these programs back and even just the level of support WVMTR has provided in the past really makes it a better program. Also having Bob there definitely makes it a better program.
