A Mountain State of Running
As you know our good friend Charlie Shaffer continues his rehabilitation after suffering a severe spinal injury. What I know I read from his daughters on-line updates. Has anyone from the club had any contact or updates on him? Have we given thought about making a club donation to his go-fund me account. Charlie and his children were very active in the early days of the club and he always was good for a laugh. Looks as if he has a very long road ahead of him.
I think if we do decide to give funds to Charlie to support his recovery, we should do it directly to him. GoFundMe takes a percentage of our contribution.
Charlie is a great friend of the club and worthy of our support. We do need to think before we act though. Personal donations/support is a slippery slope.
I would request a direct donation (check) to Charlie in the amount of $500. He has a long road ahead of him and has been a close friend.
I motion to give Charlie Shaffer a donation of $500 via club check to assist with his medical expenses.
I will second Potts' motion.
Ok, we can vote on this later too.
Just heard from Pete, he's busy at work and will chime in later this afternoon.
I do agree with Adam that these things are a slippery slope and people should be encouraged to make personal donation if they feel strongly about a need or cause. I will abstain from voting.
Slippery slop or not I vote the $500 for his family. It will lighten their load and it will be a great way for the club to help Charlie.
