Katie Wolpert is working part-time at Experience Learning, formerly The Mountain Institute, where we hold the Trilogy. She has revived the idea of a running camp that we were partner to in 2008 but did it not get off the ground. This one week camp takes a different approach in that it incorporates running into the traditional outdoor education camps they do so well rather than focusing 100% on running. The camp geared toward 13 to 18 year old high school students.

Experience Learning would like the WVMTR to partner with them on this project. Adam and I have been working with Katie and staff at EL the past couple months assisting with development. We of course have not committed WVMTR, but ask we consider that today. There are other club members already interested in volunteering for this years July 8-14 session.  EL personnel will staff the camp, two additional instructors with running backgrounds will be hired for the week. The WVMTR is asked to support one of these positions by matching the $500 cost.

Katie presented a more thorough presentation of course than I offer. Other board members who were present can add more.

Check out the camp info on the Experience Learning website,  https://experience-learning.org/camps/running-camp/

I won't make the motion since I have been part of the initial planning/discussion, but I do recommend us committing $500 ($250/$250) as a matching donation in conjunction with Experience Learning in hiring the two running counselors for $500 for the week.  This is going to be a really quality experience for high school aged children.  I am happy for us to support it.

Our partnership with EL for WV Trilogy has been good and the camp sounds great.  When I write thank you notes to donors I always include our mission to promote and encourage great trail running in WV (I read that somewhere one time on our WVMTR Site) and this camp does that.

I move to provide matching funding of $500 for the camp to be used to hire counselors.

I vote yes to the donation and if Katie needs an aid that week I am willing to offer. Our kids could all play together.
